Waiting To Exhale
by Tamora R. Hughes

How often do you actually take time to see if you’re breathing or not? Probably not much, it’s a given that we’re okay when we have mobility in our bodies and our heart is beating up and down. But on a few occasions, its happened to me that my heart seemed to skipped a beat or flutter. I had to take some breaths of air to assist my heart to beat again.

Or have you been swimming and lost your balanced, slipped under water coming back up breathing quickly trying to catch your breath. The breathing process is so subtle, but so very important to our human anatomy.

Breathing in and breathing out should be a normal process. Taking in and dispatching out continually, non-stop. But why have some of us stopped the process? We inhale everyday, taking in everything that comes our way, but never letting go, still waiting to exhale.

Prior to Genesis 2:7, God had already created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27). The image of God is spirit according to John 4:24 which says “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” And now here in Genesis 2:7, God forms a body for man yet man did not live until God breathed life into him. The form he created was lifeless until His breath entered in.

I would like to suggest something to every reader today. Even though you’re human body inhales and exhales breath, and your heart is beating right now. Have you stop breathing spiritually? Are you a dead man walking? Has life taken you through so many pains and sorrows that you forgot to spiritually exhale?

We go through motions portraying to the world that things are peachy, but when all alone the world is on our shoulders pressing our faces to the pillows, crying out with tears. Why does it hurt so much, why so much pain...we’ve forgotten to exhale.

Everything has been place on us and some of it isn’t even ours. We’ve taken it all in and never let it go. Holding on to the past, hoping that it justifies our present and delivering us into a new future, but it never does. It just keeps piling on and on and then suddenly something happens, your heart skips a beat, a flutter in your relationship. You recognize you’ve forgotten to let go, you’ve forgotten to exhale.

We are to give our problems to God. Psalm 68:19 says, “ Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” We are to let go and let God. Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Give your worries, concerns, problems, trails and tribulations to the Lord and He will hold you up and not let you fall.

Take a breath in and now release out, stop waiting and exhale. God wants you to live again!
